In February 2017, the United Nations Environment launched #CleanSeas with the aim of engaging individual citizens and governments in the eradication of marine plastic litter. The plan involves addressing the root cause of marine litter by targeting single-use plastics. To do this effectively, they have created awareness programs to engage individuals, companies, and governments to address the problem by transforming habits, practices, and policies around the planet. Ultimately, the goal is to dramatically reduce plastics in the marine environment.
